Bought this a few weeks ago, just before a live gig I was going to play. It was a little confusing figuring out the manual, but once I did, I was pleasantly surprised at how easy the H4n was to use. I recorded some of our practice the night before. I really liked having the automatic volume control & the ease of starting & stopping the recording. Runs on AA batteries with stamina mode too or with the provided power supply. Other great extras are case, mike stand adapter, windshield & usb cable. I set the H4n up in front of the band at our gig & WOW! The recording was superior to a $1000 dollar Yamaha I’d been working with before. No mikes to set up with the Zoom (even though you can plug
in extra mikes with phantom power too). I just turned the recorder on & got a great recording. The only thing I didn’t like so far is that no recording (file), can be over 2GB, that translates to less recording time in WAV format, but it’s really no big deal, you just have to stop & start more with the bigger WAV files. Even though the Zoom H4n comes with a 1GB SD card, using WAV format is better quality sound which also means much bigger files & versatility. You can still get tons of recording time with the 1GB card using MP3 format, great for practice. Definitely get a bigger SD, you will be using this thing all the time! I got a 16GB card, just make sure it is a SDHC card, most of them are anyway these days. You can over dub & there are some neat effects too (haven’t used ‘em all yet). You will not regret buying this recorder, so go out there & get one & make some great music!
